Travel Blog #10: Adjusting

Hi!
I’m still adjusting to the culture here and understanding that it’s nothing like at home.
Day 10: Our teacher didn’t show up to class yesterday, so some of the Chinese students had one-on-one sessions with us, the international students. The problem was, there’s only about six of them and 20 of us. I never got a chance to talk to one of the Chinese students, so Danielle and I talked to each other for the entire period.
For lunch, I had the same meal I had the other day, beef and rice. I think that’ll be my “go-to” because I already know it’ll taste good. In lieu of our afternoon class session, we had a field trip to the National Museum of China. I didn’t get a chance to see much because we had to stand in a very long line in the rain and go through security check and by the time we made it in the museum, it had already been an hour and a half, and we only had 30 more minutes before it was time to get back on the bus. For 15 of those 30 minutes, people kept asking to take pictures with us as if we were one of the exhibits…

Everyone ate dinner while Danielle and I slept, so the two of us went to dinner together. We went to a “western” restaurant at the front of campus. I ordered chicken, Danielle got a hamburger. She didn’t like her hamburger because it literally was a burger with ham inside, but she still ate it. My chicken was still pink so I asked the waitress if I could get something else. I asked for chicken wings and fries, she brought out the fries but never the wings. We had a 30-minute back and forth (on our translator apps) about why I still had to pay for my undercooked chicken because I’d ordered it. I was so upset! I ended up paying half, so I only ate fries for dinner.
I can see that I’m losing weight already.
再见 (Bye)!
Kyla
