Travel Blog #15: Credit or Debit?

Another day, another blog!

It seems like the weekends go back extremely quickly here. Like, wasn’t it just Friday?

Day 15: as I said, the weekend is over so you know what that means – class. Class isn’t until 9:30AM but when you can’t sleep at night, 9:30 seems like the crack of dawn. The morning session for class was the same as always, language. We learned how to say and ask for different foods, and we learned more greetings.

For lunch, I’m sure you already know what I ate – the same meal I’ve eaten pretty much every day for at least the last five days. For our afternoon class session, we had Chinese paper cutting. It was pretty cool, we cut out pandas and the Chinese symbol “yi,” which represents happiness amongst other things.

I’m starting to feel sick, I think it’s my allergies. That, and a bit of homesick. Also, it’s been thunderstorms here for the last two days, but yesterday was bad. After class, Chelsea, Danielle, Veronica and I all said we weren’t leaving back out of our rooms for the rest of the day. We didn’t. After our naps, we attempted to order a pizza online but all of the characters were in Chinese! Then, we used our apps to translate the page. (Thank goodness there’s an app for everything.) Then, we got hit with another curveball as the page said we needed to pay online – with a Chinese credit/debit card. There were no options on the site to pay with cash, either. After asking around and running into too many brick walls that weren’t Great (see what I did there, lol *wink*) we decided we were going to walk. As we were walking down the stairs, Chelsea stopped another student here who’s Korean and asked if he had a Chinese card – he did. All in all, it worked out. We paid him in cash and we got our pizza.

It’s supposed to rain again today, so I don’t know what we’re going to do, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
