Travel Blog #4: The Adventure

Good Morning!

I feel like I’ve been here for a few weeks and it’s almost time to go home. Can you believe it’s only day five?!

Day 4: yesterday was a heat wave! When I woke up at 8:30AM and wrote blog post #3, it had to already have been 85 degrees. Luckily I avoided the heat …for the morning.

As always, class was at 9:30, but we only had a morning session, and we had free time in the afternoon. In class we reviewed pinyin (the alphabet), phrases, and learned numbers and how to use them. We learned how to count from 1-10, how to use the single digits, we learned to say double digits, and how to tell time. (Note: that’s the back of my head in the picture below. LOL.)

After class, Veronica, Danielle, Chelsea and I went back to our rooms before we went to lunch (mistake #1). Veronica and I fell asleep for about an hour until it was time to go. Finally, we left. We decided to go to the bank before lunch (mistake #2). We went to three different banks to get our money converted and though they could convert currency, apparently none of them could convert money that was on a debit card to cash. Luckily, I had cash so I was able to get mine converted.

After we were completely discouraged, we decided to finally get food! We took a taxi to a commercial shopping area, but the driver passed it so we decided to get out and walk there (mistake #3). Just like baseball says, strike three, you’re out – it applied to me as well. It was 100 degrees, I have asthma, hadn’t eaten, was walking and forgot my water bottle in my room. I NEARLY PASSED OUT. As soon as we approached the restaurant I got dizzy, was seeing black dots and I was lightheaded. If I hadn’t sat down when I did, then literally forced myself to gobble down my food and water, I surely would’ve been on the floor soon. Never. Again.

Besides that situation, the day was good and so was the food. The restaurant reminded me of Chipotle. (Mexican in China?) I don’t know how questionable that is, but I liked it. After lunch, we had Starbucks and explored the stores. All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Today is our first field trip and I’m BEYOND excited!!! Stay tuned.
