Travel Blog #5: Field Trippin’

Hey!

It’s 6 in the morning on a Saturday and I just woke up. I’m hoping that after I post this blog that I can fall back to sleep, because…no.

Day 5: yesterday was our first field trip! It was an extremely long day (which is why I’m confused why I’ve randomly woken up). Anyway, the group met up and visited the Temple of Heaven. It’s a very historic site here in Beijing, and very important for those who are religious. There are several buildings and prayer rooms that lead up to the actual temple. These buildings stretch far across the area that the temple is in, so it was very difficult for us to steadily walk the path because it was 98 degrees – I believe – too hot to be walking for miles and miles.

We were all told to meet back up with the group at a certain time, at a certain place. Well, the buildings stretch so far and wide, we got lost and couldn’t find our group. It took 30 minutes for us to finally find them!

Side note: this heat is not friendly to asthmatic people, so if you have asthma like I do, please keep your inhaler close, pace yourself and keep water on you at all times.

After we met back up with the group, we ate. Veronica, Damian, myself and some other friends we made, ate Subway! It was a little different from our Subway in the US, they had less options. It was still good though. Following lunch, we visited a market. I picked up a few souvenirs. Note: if you go to China (and many other foreign countries, for that matter) and you go to a market, make sure you’re good at bargaining!!! I’m a pro. *wink*

We left the market and went to a Kung Fu show. It was great! The entire show was in Chinese, but there were short descriptions (in English) before each scene, so we still knew what was going on.

Our first field trip was truly a day to remember, I wonder what we’ll be seeing next. Stay tuned!
