Travel Blog #6: The Weekend

Good Morning!

I’m having another morning like I was yesterday, so I’ll be going back to sleep after this is posted.

Day 6: yesterday was a chill day. Chill as in laid back but also in reference to the weather LOL! Unfortunately, our first weekend here in Beijing, it rains. All week it was unbearably hot, and then it literally decides to rain on our parade. It’s okay though, we rolled with the punches. Though none of us out of bed until about one in the afternoon, we decided to go to the mall for the day.

We found a pizzeria on the strip called Kro’s Nest, and it was delicious!!! We got three different types of pizza and chicken wings. After we ate, we walked around the mall, which was a little different. There were mainly watch and jewelry stores, and rarely any clothing stores like we’re used to. The only familiar stores I saw were UGG, Armani Exchange and Rolex.

Something that I found interesting was when I saw people making purchases at certain stores, they’d get a receipt and had to pay at a cashier counter then return to the initial store to show proof of purchase, then they would retrieve their item(s). We tried to go to the movies, because The Incredibles 2 was playing, but it was only in Chinese (even though it was an international movie theater, we thought they’d at least have subtitles.) We finally left the mall. We took a DiDi, which is the Chinese equivalent to an Uber.
